The Developer Magazine has announced the launch of a new prize for temporary interventions on urban sites. The Meanwhile Prize will shine a light on activations that make a positive contribution to place and to the local community and can include artworks, pop-up bars and restaurants, landscape projects, leisure and play structures, guerrilla gardens, community projects, street furniture or other creative interventions that encourage innovation.
Our Chief Executive, Darren Comber, will be joining a judging panel that includes Angus Dodd, Chief Executive of Quintain; Pam Alexander OBE, Chair of Commonplace Digital Ltd and Non Executive Director of the London Legacy Development Corporation, and Christine Murray, Editor-in-Chief of The Developer.
The prize will be judged on design, activation and the meanwhile project’s impact on community and place
‘‘Meanwhile use provides the opportunity to creatively animate our urban environments in a way that can deliver significant benefits to local communities, encouraging innovation and supporting the whole notion of ‘street start ups’.
The Meanwhile Prize acknowledges creativity and design in this rapidly expanding area.”
The shortlisted projects for the Meanwhile Prize will feature in an exhibition and those with shortlisted schemes will participate in a panel discussion on “meanwhile places” at the HOMES UK 2019 exhibition, one of the largest gatherings of the UK residential sector with 6,000 attendees, taking place on 27-28 November at London’s ExCel. The final deadline for entries is 30 October.
