New book release: Community Schools: Designing for sustainability, wellbeing and inclusion
Schools have the potential to empower communities by connecting people better with the places they live. But how can these benefits be baked into a design brief? Addressing this, our Director of Practice Helen Taylor, has co-authored a new RIBA Publishing book with Dr Sharon Wright, Senior Associate, The-Learning-Crowd.
Titled, 'Community Schools: Designing for sustainability, wellbeing and inclusion', the book explores how the school design brief might be reframed to deliver buildings that better reflect the needs of young people, staff, communities and the environment.
Director of Practice Helen Taylor says:
“It has been fantastic to collaborate with Sharon once again on this research that gathers ideas and beautiful case studies from around the world to evidence how schools can add value to society beyond the delivery of the curriculum”
Dr Sharon Wright, Senior Associate, The-Learning-Crowd says:
‘This book draws on our decades of working across the education sector and is firmly focused on how schools can ready themselves to make the most of future opportunities. Working with Helen is always brilliant as she has such insight and experience around the positive impact good design can have on communities.’
Contributions were featured from a series of experts across the globe, providing their views on how we can design for sustainability, wellbeing and inclusion within schools. The resulting publication is an invaluable resource for educators, designers and policy makers as they look for new ways to tackle the challenges ahead.
The book is now available to be purchased here.
