Our design for Old Church Street, consisting of two new contemporary townhouses and four new apartments, has completed. Developed closely with the client Martin’s Properties, the scheme makes use of redeveloped back-land and repurposes an existing commercial building in the heart of Chelsea.

Conceived as two co-located elements, the 759 sq m townhouses are positioned around a courtyard to introduce light, space and privacy on a site tucked away from Old Church Street. A modern interpretation of a traditional Chelsea townhouse, their design is contemporary and light, with clean lines and form complemented by high quality materials: brick and bronze anodised aluminium cladding.

Capturing light whilst protecting privacy is achieved by wrapping the living spaces around inner courtyards, and blurring the lines between inside and outside space.”

Designed to bring the outside in, the courtyard is a central part linking exterior and interior. On the ground floor the main living space, kitchen and dining area wraps around and connects with the courtyard via full height sliding and bi-fold doors. The basement accommodates a media, games and guest bedroom. Two further bedrooms and a master suite are located on upper floors. A sense of privacy and ambient light is achieved through a series of roof lights that highlight, and capture the essence of our contemporary interior design concept and fit out. Luxurious furnishings and home styling by designer Andrew Martin complement the design.

The four, two bed two-bathroom, new build apartments sit behind a retained, and meticulously restored facade overlooking Old Church Street and offer period features alongside contemporary interiors. The floor area was optimised by combining two existing buildings, creating a basement level and building a new mansard floor. As a result, each 455 sq m apartment boasts an entire floor to itself.
