Scott Brownrigg’s luxury residential scheme The Woods has won the ‘Best Foreign Practices in Energy Efficiency Enhancement Recommended for Implementation in the Russian Federation’ award in the ENES ‘All-Russia Competition’ for Energy Efficiency.

The Woods has created the ultimate in contemporary, luxurious, sustainable, rural living and provides four detached, five and six bedroomed houses set within ancient woodland in Woburn, UK. The design of the houses is based on an open-plan concept, establishing spatial continuity between the inside and outside throughout. The goal was to design a series of homes that meet the highest sustainability standards, with proven technology that owners and occupiers will benefit from both in terms of ease of use, and with a significant reduction in energy consumption and cost.

Developed with sustainability in mind, solar photovoltaic and solar thermal panels are integrated onto the roof of each house and water is provided from boreholes. Windows are triple glazed and biomass boilers link to the hot water and underfloor heating systems to provide a sustainable energy source to each house. The houses are qualified as zero-carbon development and achieve a UK Code for Sustainable Homes 2010 Level 5.

Organised by the Russian Ministry of Energy, the ENES exhibition aspires to promote the implementation of projects that improve energy efficiency and propagate an energy-saving lifestyle at international, federal, regional and municipal levels. The contest’s categories reflect the priorities of Russian governmental policy in the field of energy conservation and energy efficiency enhancement and the awards were entered by over 100 companies, both Russian and foreign.

The award will be presented at a ceremony during the Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving Forum on 24 November in Moscow.
