The Brief

Our task was to design a campus that will provide two identical 18MW, three storey, Tier III Data Centres on a brownfield site with clean power provided directly from the adjacent riverside waste-to-energy plant.

Concept

The buildings are conceived as industrial ‘vessels’ placed in a riverside setting
containing essential infrastructure for the modern age. Their form references this, whilst at another scale, they might be viewed as critical components on a circuit board, or nodes on a network.

Features

The buildings are designed with all critical accommodation above first floor level
to mitigate flood risk and, in response to the site context, a number of biodiversity features have been incorporated into the design, such as 1700 sq m of living walls and 2400 sq m of living roofs.
